REQUIREMENTS

Steel.
Sleeve:
Brass.
Springs:
Nickel silver.
Contact:
Palladium or gold alloy.
Cable clamp: The cable clamp requirement is applicable.
The cable clamp shall anchor cable having diameters from .220 to .275 inches.
Insertion and withdrawal forces: The insertion and withdrawal forces shall be as follows:
Insertion force:
10 pounds maximum.
Withdrawal force:
6.0 pounds minimum; 10 pounds maximum.
Test plug:
TP-777.
Spring life: Test plug TP-385 shall be used.
Frame strength: Frame strength test is applicable. Load - 20 pounds maximum.
Conductor strain relief: The conductor strain relief requirement is applicable.
Strain relief: The strain relief test is applicable.
Contact spring pressure: The contact spring pressure test is applicable.
Contact spring overtravel: The contact spring overtravel test is applicable.
Static load: The static load test is applicable.
Longitudinal pull: The longitudinal pull test is applicable.
Solder lug terminals: The solder terminal for each spring contact shall be so shared and located to
accommodate two #23 AWG (21 strands #36) conductors.
Body and shell: Materials shall have electrical and non-electrical properties appropriate for their intended
use in electrical components. The shell shall be glass fiber reinforced nylon in accordance with
ASTM D4066, black. The body shall be Penn-Salt Kynar, red.
Weight: The weight of the jack shall not exceed 16 grams.
Marking: The jack shall be marked with the Part or Identifying Number (PIN) and U-385/U.
Mating plug: M642/14-1.
